I understand that the AC45 is no longer being made..
Is this true??
If so, what is a good replacement?

Thanks
Tony

Tony, I assume you have standard ignition? Use the ACR45S which is readily available. If you are TI, have a look at the NGK equivalent. I use the 4722 instead of the ACR43XLS and the difference is wonders (I did try the NGK in my std ign 442 and no difference).

I hear mixed reviews of the AC Rapidfires but that is also an alternative.

Someone told me the R45S was not being made any more..
Glad to hear that they are

Now if I can just get a wrench to the old ones

Thanks
Tony

I did not ask around whether the R45S was still available but I have seen them as recently as six months ago. If they cannot be found where you are, try the NGK 3522. Advance shows both this plug and the AS R45S on their website.

67435animal, are those Delco /NGK plug numbers good for the 1967 327/350hp, 4spd, A/C convertible also?
Thanks Bob

When I bought my '67 L-79 3 years ago, it had AC 46's in it. After looking through the owner's manual, it said that AC 45 was the correct plug. So I go out and buy a set of AC 45's and installed them.

For whatever reason, the car didn't run nearly as good on the 45's and I put the 46's back in and have used them since. I think since the 46 is a hotter plug, my car runs better at cruising speeds.:)

I'll have to take a peek to see what I have now..

I may have to get the sawzall ready for the right bank..

I think the A/C will have to be removed just to get to the shielding

Guys,
Is this how a frame off starts... :eek

Tony

Yup, they stopped making 46's about a year ago; I use the R45S in both my Vette and '69 Z/28 with no problems - 44's are too cold, and create fouling issues.:Steer

R45S it is then...

I don't think I want to fight that shielding twice

Bob, the R45S are good for the 350HP as well. I also have run them in two of my Oldsmobiles - one 350 and the other 400CI.

I believe the NGK number is right but you can go to the NGK site and they will cross reference or ask for your car and tell you the plug number.

Both are available at Advance.

Bob

PS-I owned a 300HP white 67 convertible for 13 years so your picture brings back many memories.

67435animal, I hope they are all "good" memories! Thanks for the plug info, will check it out. Which ran better, and which lasted longer in a Corvette, NGK or Delco?

Bob, almost all great. Especially driving the 67 from Atlanta to Phoenix and back. What a lark. In the standard ignition systems the A and the NGK perform the same (benchmark = stock 400CI 67 Olds 442).

In the 67 TI 435, the NGKs start better, no weird ignition problems as I experienced with the AC.

So, for std ign = AC!

For TI, NGK!
