Hi folks... I've seen a post on here earlier about the plastic like coverings that go over the spark plug wires.

My question is, are these factory installed covers for the wires and do most of you have them installed on your C4 LT1?

I've read where the wires when uncovered can short and cause rough idles and running conditions.

I've looked at a couple of pictures I've found of LT1 engines and I do see on some of them these plastic cover wraps. When I had the dealer replace my plugs and wires, I have since noticed I no longer have these items. I'm wondering if they never bothered to reinstall them, damaged them or what, but if they should be there this might be causing my problem.

Your help would be greatly appreciated, especially from a C4 LT1 owner who was the original buyer so they know what was originally there.

Thanks, Lani

Lani, there is no reason to have additional protection for your plug wires. The original insulation is sufficient. If a wire is routed where it could come in contact with "hot" components, it would be recommended that it be protected from the heat. If a wire is routed where chafing might occur, then protection would be recommended. Proper installation of plug wires would prevent these
conditions from existing. Spark "jump" is usually caused by the wire caps not securely fastened to the plugs, or a fracture of the insulation caused by carelessness.
