Hi all,
Hope someone can give me some help with replacing my spark plug wires. I have a 76 I recently purchased and I'm doing all the routine maintenance stuff. When I look at the current wires with all the shielding and the way they are routed it looks like its a real pain in the butt. I've searched the posts here but don't really see any help on how best to tackle this job. I do want to run them through the existing shielding. One post said to do this 1 wire at a time and to thread them though the existing shielding. Is this possible, can you do this 1 wire a time with out removing the lower shielding and the other wires in place? The access is pretty limited especially on the passenger side. Thanks for any tips or suggestions.

Just take the shielding off for full access to install the new wires - only takes a few minutes; good time to replace the plugs too as long as the shielding is off.

Thanks John, I did buy new plugs, cap, rotor & wires. Which shielding needs to be removed, just the lower and of course the cap shield?

I just did this job on my "76" and it was a little harder than I thouhg it would be. The Drives side was ok, but I did find one wire that ran through the motor mount, I just cut the old wire and pulled it out then when I replaced it I just ran it on the outside of the mount and it seemed to work fine. The passenage side requires that you remove the starter to get the shielding off and then you have the same problem wiht the motor mounts, my recommend, though some would call it "bubba" is to cut the old wires pull them out of the way then run the new ones under the shielding and around the motor mount worked good for me.
