1986 Black C4 Convertable
Hi Guys,

Quick question , I have a late 1986 C4 convertable , (the indi 500 model) . I want to change the plugs but need a refrence number for my local dealer to work out which ones I need.

Can any one help.

Cheers

You might try these plugs that are platinum-tipped:

BOSCH Platinum +4 part number 4418 (gap .035)
NGK G-Power Platinum FR4GP, (stock number 2685) (gap .035)
AC-Delco Platinum 41-817 (pre-gapped)

I have NGK Iridiums in my 1992 which are fantastic plugs but expensive at $5.50 US each :cry , but the NGK website doesn't show a listing for the Iridium plug in the L98 motors. I have heard both good and bad things about the BOSCH plugs.

The platinum plugs should last longer than a standard plug and given the amount of effort you put into a plug change, it might be worth the extra money for a longer-lasting plug.

The Bosch +4's I got for my '90 were pre-gapped with a statment saying not to adjust. Not sure of the P/N.

:w

Thanks

Ok, thanks very much guys.

The local supplier just told me that the refrence number meant nothing to him but he did say that he had Bosch +4's in stock.

Are there different types of this plug?

Cheers

The numbers I posted came from the BOSCH USA website http://www.boschusa.com/AutoParts/SparkPlugs/ You can find your specific plug here by clicking on the plug name in the box on the right side and then use the boxes to select your car and that will take you to the plug part numbers.

There is also a separate site for "World" BOSCH products. Here's the UK site http://www.boschautoparts.co.uk/ I didn't see a way to find specific plug applications like the US site has.

There could be differences between US products and the "Global" versions where the part numbers are not the same. The Platinum +4 plugs are available for a wide variety of cars and there are standard plugs and a +2 version. But because the Corvette was a US car, it may be that these specific plugs may have to be special ordered for you. Your supplier may have to contact a BOSCH distributor to see if a US plug can be ordered

hate to burst your bubbles but bosch plat + 4's suck. they foul out after 6k in miles. i lost 4 tenths and 5 mph from a tune up with these plugs. after that just AC Delco Rapid Fires for me.

FYI...

make sure you know if you got the iron heads or the aluminum heads also. Late 86's had aluminum.

I have to agree. Everytime I went to Autzone and they guy tried to sell me Bosch plugs the one guy there with an 84 chewed him out. You don't even have to run Rapidfires. The regular ACDelco cheapies will work better then the Bosch's IMO. Good luck.

so I'm not the only one. I changed my plugs 1 1/2 months ago and they really pushed the bosch plugs on me. Went with ac delco too. can't complain.
However, One of my good friends swears by them.
So grab a coin and give it a toss up!

Of course they'll push the Bosch plugs on you, they're $6 a plug! And when you get 8 of them, that's more than $50 when you add in tax.

Regular ol' Delco's work fine for me.

Yeah for that price get the rapidfires then. My brother has had them in his car for over a year now, and they still look like new. If my memory serves me right I think you can get the regular AC's for under 10-15 bucks, but don't take my word for it I haven't bought them for a while.

Yeah, the regular Delco's are like $2 each.

I have used the BOSCH +4 in my 1990 L98 and had very good luck with them. No fouling, none of the electrodes coming off (as I have read in other posts). I recommend them. The first of the two links above showed BOSCH Platinum +4 part number 4419 and BOSCH Platinum +2 part number 4312 for my car.

I haven't had any problem with the Bosch plugs yet, but I don't drive the 86 that much. Only on race day:L . I just have the single tab though. I've heard of problems with the +2 & +4 Plugs. I'll have to give them time to see how they do.
