speaker noise

I have the bose sound system on my 90 coupe and am getting a lot of speaker noise.It seems to be coming from the right rear speaker, a high pitched shrill sound that drowns out the radio.Has anyone heard of this problem with the speaker?Would really appreciate any suggestions to correct this.Thanks in advance.

Mine did the same and it was the amplifier had gone bad. Sent all my speakers off to Dr. Don and had them rebuilt. I believe there is another CAC member that does this also. Runs about $200 for all 4 of the speakers. i don't know the cost individually.

I agree with vette-dude - the amplifier has gone bad.
You can disconnect the offending speaker or both rear speakers as an interim before replacing or repairing them.
If one is bad, others may be going bad also. I'd suggest replacing/repairing all 4.
Mid-America sells replacement amps at $130+shipping a pop.

When my first one went bad, the rear speaker make a very loud pop like a back fire or gun shot right inside my car - got my attention. Then it started making a lot of very loud noises. Turned out that water got to it and ruined the board. I ended up replacing it. Then a few months later, a second one went bad - it was repairable though. I ended up having all four fixed or replaced over a 2 year period.

Just unscrew the covers and the many hex headed screws around the perimeter of the speaker housung, disconnect the lead in harness and remove. Pretty straight forward and easy on the rear. On the front the hardest part is getting the door sill cover out. You have to manuever it around the brake handle on the drivers side. Then pull back the edge of the carpet to get to the screws. Take your time. I sent off the whole set of speakers - housings and all and let them rebuild what was broke. If you need a source Let me know and I will look up Dr. Don's address for you. Or there are other places to send them if you so desire.
