I think VETTE MAGAZINE had an article about Speed Direct's Steeriods Rack and Pinion upgrade some time back. I was wondering if anyone had done this on their C3/76? I am looking to do this and wanted to check around.

A wonder too--for awhile I heard they were crap. Then all I heard was that they were great.

has anyone ever tried to put a p/s sterring box in? replacing the complicated Vette system

looks like a sound installation. there was a refence to Jeff Montgomery adapting a power-assisted steering box. i cannot find any other info on the Vette magazine site

I am still a little concerned that the Steeroids system involves a total re-engineering of a major safety component. Notwithstanding the improved response, is the system, its support brackets and the complex u-joint arrangement going to be up to the task over time, especially if you use the car in daily driving in the real world? What I really think would be great would be if one of the suppliers would offer an improved steering box. Just tightening the thing makes a tremendous improvement in the car, but tightening causes more wear and the cycle repeats itself. Maybe the solution is simply to periodically tighten/change the box.

Not sure what time frame you're looking to do this in, but my kit should be getting here any time now. I can let you know how the installation goes. I'll be doing the VBP front monospring conversion at the same time. Unfortunately, I won't have the car back on the road for another 4-5 moths though since I'm moving in about 2 and need to rebuild the engine before I drive her again. When I get the kit I'll try to remember to keep this thread updated as to my opinions on it. Also, Mid America and Eckler's now carry the kit as well. I know Eckler's is a bit overpriced on it, but I think MA may be cheaper than Speeddirect. Just something to look in to.

I've got the Steeroids setup and would never consider going back to the vague stock steering. It's a simple bolt in that brings C3 steering technology into the present. Plus, you are able to get rid of the stock steering box, control valve and cylinder for a much cleaner appearance. I'm not sure if you save much weight, but it does shed a few pounds off the front.

The only thing that some have had trouble with is the u-joint linkage between the rack and the steering column. It takes some adjusting to get it not to bind. You don't have to search long on "the other forum" to find many satisfied customers. Speeddirect's customer service is responsive and helpful as well.

I've recommended the conversion to several. Those who have bit the bullet and bought the kit, have not been sorry.
