Today's Speedvision "dcg" showed the second step on their C4 restoration...they installed a new battery. I got up at 6:30 am to see that? Anyone knows when is the next episode? I'll set up the VCR next :mad

If you do not have sppedvision, I'll keep you informed

I want the 3 minutes I wasted watching this back.

Well I just watched episode 2. I was not impressed.

Episode Summary
Watch the really really shiny new wheels!
Yokahama tires. Can you say Yokahama?
Really really Shinnny wheels!
New battery for the "B!T#H'!N New Stereo"
Really really Shinnny wheels! (see a pattern developing here?)
Really really Shinnny wheels!

I wonder how long it'll take the frame brace webbing to rub through the plastic battery post protecter on top of the new Optima battery.

The web site says their gonna blow $15,000 on this car. Looking at the episode guide I just don't see it. I mean, how much is MidAmerica gonna charge them for the mirror mounted wind deflectors?;)

Some of the future episodes look a little more interesting like the Baer brake kit. (BTDT & got the cool little keychain) Hopefully they'll get more time in the future shows.

Me neither!

add this -
Let's see how many times we can bend this body panel back and forth before it breaks!!

Do they even know how to take the panel off? Would you ever do that on your car??? Disgusting :cry
Chetzki

It made the car seem like it was made of plastic;) . Wait till the red top shorts to ground on those terminals sticking up.

I really wish they had filmed the portly fellow exiting the vehicle. Now THAT would have been good.

Is amazing...we are extreme fans of the C4, we woke up early to watch 2 minutes and you know what, next episode maybe after I set the VCR, I'll get up too.:W

Dream Car Garage C4 Project

To date the C4 portion of the program has been a big disapointment. I thought we would learn how to do some of the more involved jobs. Luckily, I have a DVR, but again the shows have been really disapointing.

I am a regular customer of Mid American. So far they are not looking like the madvet that I know. Need to bring on the value which I thought they were all about.

being a EE, i have the official fix for the flashing 12 syndrome - cut a piece of .5 inch wide electirical tape appoximately 1.5 inches long. position it over the flashing 12. resets everything to normal. BTW, the same procedure also works for check engine lights.;LOL

FWIW..no cable here, thanks.

new Optima battery
Dumping my second failed, properly sized, 'red top' Optima, finally fixed my recurring starting problems.

Cheap crappy plastic, for $35, these. One fell off the same day, the others soon followed. Actually, I was glad they were gone.

What would you do with $15,000 and your Vette.

Well the Baer brake upgrade episode was marginally less pathetic than the first 2 episodes.

Optima batteries - I had to modify the steel webbing on the frame brace after the 1st battery shifted in the tray ( by about 3 millimeters) and shorted out. since then no worries and the car seems to start better.

I hope they don't put those wind deflectors on the car. I was being sarcastic on that one.

My question is, what would you do if you had $15,000 to spend on your vette?

Optima... good choice but heavy...

Wind deflectors... nice little mod that actually works...

$15 grand to blow ? Lets see... another set of wheels like HRE's or Fiske, big brake upgrade, coilovers and hiem joints everywhere... custom lightweight titaniam exhaust system... superb sound system, Pro toledo hood...

Or... see if I can put together a forged internal 383 low compression motor suitable for a twin turbo setup... the goal being about 800+ hp on pump gas... also reinforce the driveline a bit... more money down a black hole !

With 15K, buy another C4, to add to the collection

I already did! Well, about $10k anyways.

I would the following:
1) new paint job
2) new suspension and bushings
3) new interior
4) new stereo
5) new wheels and tires

That's all assuming powertrain is in good, strong condition!

Dream Car Garage C4 build up

I've watched this show for some years and have come to the conclusion that the only things they really take time to explain are what is required to do a body restoration and racing suspensions. If they spent less time tormenting the fat guy they would have more time for tech questions.

They did a show a while back called the Muscle Car Shootout or some such tripe. All the usually players were there, but no big block Vettes, and they made some effort to turn back the clock so to speak by using Coker repop tires, brake pads from one of their sponsers, no special tuneups etc. The kicker was that the Hemi Challenger's clutch was going away and they just let it go. It wouldn't break 14 seconds in the quarter! I was a young man when these cars were new and actually drove some of them on the street and the strip. They ruined what started out to be an excellent program for us old folks!

Now I ask how much trouble would it have been for people with those resources to swap out a clutch? To have the legendary big gun of that group sidelined by a bad clutch tells me something about the people responsible for the show.

It also shows in the C4 buildup. Throw some money at it. How about a little before and after testing? You'd think Mid American would want to show the value in their wares.

Oh well I guess we will just have to depend on each other to determine the values of some of these products.
