Spray painting or adding dye to a black carpet

Just wondering if anyone has spray painted a section or spot of thier black carpeting ...and how it turned out ? Was it a good match? What about adding dye to a spot that is discolored on black carpeting...has anyone done this ??

Haven't done black, but have done a little red. Color match depends on how faded the original is. If it is real bad, you just have to do the whole piece.

Make sure the carpet is as clean as you can get it and then after spraying it an letting it dry for a little while, gently comb or brush the loom to keep it from sticking together. Several light coats work better than a heavy one.

Ritt Dye

I had very good luck using Ritt Black Dye on faded and stained carpet. Mix the dye powder with alchohol or lacquer thinner, and then dab it on with sponge and a stiff bristle paint brush. Make sure you have rubber gloves on because the dye will take weeks to wear off your hands. After it dries taked damp towels and rub it to get the unabsorbed dye off the surface of the carpet fibers.

I used the black dye spray paint about six years ago it has held up great, spray it on light coat and take a bristle brush and rub it in, I believe I got mine from Corvette America

The carpet on my 70 was faded in places due to the sun. I took RIT black dye (LIQUID) mixed with water and put in a spray bottle.

Sprayed it where needed let dry then wiped excess off with a towel. Did it twice in certain areas. Now you can't tell where it had been faded.

I don't know how long it will last but that was 18 months ago and it still looks great.
