Question: SRC/FX3 actuator positions. 6 max or 6 in software max?

I've been reading more on SRC/FX3 lately now that I own a 1994 ZR-1 with it, and have reached one question I can't seem to answer. All the articles I've read including Hib's suggest there are 6 total positions the dampening valve can be set to. However, if you look at both the 89-91 and 92-95 programs each shows thirteen (13) different angles of actuator rotation when count the unique values from Tour/Sport/Perf combined.

Was this a SOFTWARE limitation at the time where a max of six positions could be stored in each profile? I'm struggling to understand the difference in documentation vs the images below. Cheers!

1992-1995, when the actuators moved 0-80* (13 different angles of rotation, but max of six for any one program.)

89-91 shows something similar, but those actuators moved from 0-160* (13 different angles of rotation, but max of six for any one program.)

My current theory is 8 physical positions.
  • P0: Used in Tour only. Bypass valve fully open.
  • P1: Used in Tour/Sport
  • P2: Used in Tour/Sport/Perf
  • P3: Used in Tour/Sport/Perf
  • P4: Used in Tour/Sport/Perf
  • P5: Used in Tour/Sport/Perf
  • P6: Used in Sport/Perf
  • P7: Used in Perf only. Bypass valve fully closed.

That at least seems to align with the descriptions in the charts and text even though all documentation I can find strongly suggests only six dampening positions. Maybe full open and full closed aren't considered dampening positions.

I need to look at a shock with the actuator off and see if I can feel any detents in between the outermost physical limits. If I don't, then I need to measure the position sensors as they send feedback to the SRC controller at different MPHs in each mode.
