I 99% sure I have the original 4sp. It's date coded 8-29-77, part# 1304065903. Is this right for a '78 L82?

Yes, if your car's VIN derivative is also stamped on it, adjacent to the B-W date stamp at the upper rear machined surface of the main case on the driver's side.
