:confused The Vett will go into storage soon, for perhaps 4 months, and I'm wondering about a "fuel stabilizer" e.g. Sta-Bil. I dislike putting anything except gas in the tank. Anyone have any problems with this stuff?

When I deployed for 5 months several years ago, I just made sure the gas tank was full and the battery was unhooked on my '02. When I returned I hooked the battery back up and it started on the 2nd crank with no issues.

I think as long as you use quality gas you will be fine without any additives.

I use Sta-Bil when storing my car and my boat (Yamaha engine) and have never had any issues. I normally put an ounce or 2 in when I fill up the cherry can for my lawn mower and snow blower.

If you're storing for four months, you don't need a fuel stabilizer. If you store for a year or more, you may.

Shelf life

Careful using Sta-bil. It's shelf life is not forever. The back of the bottle will tell you when opened it has a shelf life of 2 years. I mark all of my gas cans and left over Sta-Bil with a date used or opened,

JimVette, thanks for the info, I didn't know that. But between my lawn equipment and my bikes, I usually go through a bottle a year, but I'll keep the expiration time in mind.

Long Winters Up Here

If you're storing for four months, you don't need a fuel stabilizer. If you store for a year or more, you may.

Hib - mine's down for six months every winter. I add Stabil (always a new fresh bottle), fill the tank and drive it a few miles to get it into the entire fuel system. Put the car in the garage and plug in the battery tender. It has started and run perfectly (this will be the 8th winter) every spring.
