starter chirp ?

Here's one for all you engine experts........ as I start my engine I'm hearing
a quick chirp. I've been told the noise is coming from the starter. It's been
suggested that shims can be applied to better align the starter teeth. Please
"chirp" in with your own thoughts....... and thanks!

Quite possible the noise is coming from the starter, the shims set the proper clearance between the starter gear and the ring gear. Too little clearance will result in the starter "hanging in" and dragging after the car has started. It's not too difficult to check the clearance, though I don't remember offhand what proper clearance measures.
 
Any auto parts store will have the shims . . I just added two to my starter without measuring and it fixed the noise . . works great now.

That sounds great. Thanks for the assist. I was under the impression
that shims might just do the trick.
