I am not sure what I did but here is what happened. Have been having issues with hesitation -cut out on hard acceleration. (72 with 454) So I pulled distributor to inspect and replaced coil. Reinstalled distributor tried to start. It initially fires over but quits as soon as I let off the key. Checked with test light, power to coil. Nothing in the on position. but has power when cranking and then nine when switch goes back to on position. Can't figure out what I may have done. Any ideas?:confused

There should be TWO wires in the spade connector on the coil (+) terminal - one black/pink (resistance wire from the ignition switch), and one yellow (bypass wire from the starter solenoid that supplies 12 volts when cranking). If the black/pink wire isn't connected, it'll fire while cranking, but will die when the key goes back to the "run" position.
