84Vette

When i drive my vette long distances and shut it down to eat, fill up, restroom whatever it some times will not start. I mean not turn over nada. There I nothing like being stranded for an hour or more. But after awhile (hour our sometimes more it will start upon the first crank. i have been told two different things 1) is that my starter is going bad and 2) My exhaust is getting clogged thus increasing backpressure in my cylinders which won't let it crank. It only does it on long trips. would anyone have any ideas what it is?

Not sure what size engine you have but if its bigger than a bread box you can purchase or make a heat shield for the starter. Since I only have a 350, it didnt make sense my starting problem after about 45min-1hr of driving was heat so I replaced the starter with a rebuilt ACDelco and have had zero issues starting since.
