Hi guys, I just got the motor and I am ready to fire it up. I already jumped the started and it turns over. So, now I have connected the ignition up and this is where I am having problems.

I have 1 large wire going to large post from the battery. 2 red wires with fusable links? going to the same post. 1 purple wire to one of the smaller terminals, what one should it go to inside or outside??

Now when I turn the key I get nothing, I have a small clicking noise come from a green colored "box" near the shifter, what is this?

Any suggestions on where i should start trying to figure this out?

Thanks
Mike

Green box sounds like the anti theft relay. Do you have an alarm?

I can't really offer any other help. I have an 82...slightly different. Do you have power at the starter? all your fuses good???

I dont know if I ahve an alarm or not, I think the car came with one. But to my knowledge it was not working. I do have power to the starter. I know this because as I was changing the locaiton of the purple wire to the engine side terminal I had some sparks shoot out at me. When I get home tonight I will check the power.

With the key in the off position I should get power to the two larger terminals correct?
and no power elsewhere?

With the key int he on position should I get power to the purple wire to ground?

Or how does that work?/

Thanks
Mike

The purple wire energizes the starter when you turn the key to "start" - that's the only time it has power on it; it goes on the inboard ("S") terminal on the solenoid. The large stud on the solenoid (where the battery cable attaches) has power all the time, regardless of key position.

I figured it out, it was the wires to the shifter. Neutral switch I think. Any ways it turns over, now it just going to be if I can get it started.,

Thanks
Mike
