Since we are about 90% done with the engine, turned my attention to the interior. A person I know specializes in interiors and is doing mine for an excellent price. I got a call from him last Tuesday (before the storm) telling me he is having one heck of a time getting the capet up from the floor. It appears the person who did this around 1988 (found date on carpet tag), used too much glue. After 15 hours he managed to remove all the old carpet and the old glue.
Oh but what he found now takes the cake......TWO holes in the back area. One of the holes was cut THROUGH the luggage stop. It was about 10 X 8 inches, just the right size for a radio speaker. It was repaired with a roughly cut piece of aluminum, riveted to the stop, rivets were very lose. Well he repaire that by doing a weld and sanding, looks really good. The worse was yet to come....in the back, on the floor, below the split window was a 3 foot by 2 foot cut out (looks like they tried to access the gas tank from here) of a particle board held on by "Duck Tape", which the carpet was GLUED on top of it. Well it was refiber glassed, sanded and looks almost like new.

Carpet is in, looks like new, all the interior trim was completed, glass beeded and repainted, new headliner, and new side radio panels, and the transmission insullation (the hump) was installed. Looks like a new interior. The prior restoration that was down in the interior was in 1989, the best we can tell. They used sheet metal screws for all the trim, causing the screw heads to stick out. He retapped EVERY hole used on the interior trim and put the correct screws in throughout the interior. This should cut the vibration clatter when the car is running from the interior molding.

He is finishing up today and should be ready to go back to garage to finish engine work.

Pictures to follow.....once we finish this whole thing. Next step, this winter we will take apart dash, send it out to get restored, and do the entire wire harness for the interior under the dash. This will be a bear....

The luggage stop is a flat piece of aluminum that runns from one side to the other on top of the small wall behind the seat that forms the jack storage area. You can't see it because its under the carpet, directely behind your seats. This pieace of aluminum is about 9 inches wide, and like I stated runs from one side of the car to the other. I hope this explains it. Just remember its under the carpet so you cannot see it.
