As I remember, the steering column has an adjustment whereby you could position the steering wheel closer to the dash for a larger person or further out for a smaller person. I thought the procedure was in the service manual however I cant find it. Is anyone out there familiar with the procedure.

I now know I am not the only one who has read this.I had also read this information (Ithought in my owners manual) and when I went to find out how to do it,every corvette person I spoke to said they never heard of it.I will watch this post carefully.

This is strickly from memory, so if I get this wrong, don't shoot me...

Loosen the column bracket under the dash, loosen the column clamp at the firewall in the engine compartment, loosen the upper rag joint flange to column bolt. Position the steering column where you want it, tighten everything. I believe there is only about 2" of movement available.

Only the '63 was designed for later adjustment by the owner/dealer; it can be done on later midyears by disengaging the "dimple" at the firewall clamp and pushing the end of the shaft deeper into the upper part of the rag joint (until you run out of "flat" for the pinch bolt), but it wasn't designed to be moved.

Hi! John

What would have been the correct setting point for 64 through 67?

The correct setting point is when the "dimple" on the firewall clamp tang is engaged with the matching "dimple" on the outside of the mast jacket tube; that's the design locating point.
