Hi everyone. I have a 79 vet. When sitting still if you move the steering wheel the front tires move, there does not seem to be any play. That is good but at 50 mph I feel a like there is a notch or click moving the wheel from left or right. This gets kinda hairy if on a curvy road. Every thing seems tight under the car. Got any ideas???:drink

Steering

Hi Brew, I'm glad you asked that question. I'm have the same issue with my steering. I just completed a complete front end rebuild. I've been told that my "Pittman Arm" is worn out and needs to be replaced. What do you think guys?

Don't know just how bad your 'play' is, but I do know that it's a 'feature' of '70s model corvette power steering to have some play in it. I can't explain it very technically, but it has something to do with the lag between turning the steering wheel and the power steering control valve actuating. Personally, I learned to drive on a '70s chevy with the same type of steering, so for me it's nostalgic to have that same feel to my car's steering, but if I wanted a more 'solid' contemporary feel I'd replace it with an aftermarket power steering system.
