Steering wheel screech

My '68 makes this awfull screeching noise sometimes when turning the wheel. Sounds like it needs oil somewhere but where(sounds like its inside the car in the column)? I used to have a '74 a few years ago that made the same type noise so I'm guessing this is a fairly common problem. Please help! This noise is really starting to get on my nerves.

How tight is the steering pump pully belt? A lose belt will make a squeeling noise when turning. Check the belt first before spending big bucks on a P/S pump.
