I just bought the 75 stingray ... tryin to come up with a way to install a sound system to back up the cars look ... any ideas?

What did you want to put in it? Simple CD player and add some rear speakers, an amp, a bass, etc. Lots of people have done it just need to know what you are interested in.

I put a CD/MP3 player, upgraded the front speakers and added rear speakers. Fairly easy. Had to cut the bezel to expand the stereo hole and built enclosures for the rears.

thats what i wanted to check ... to see if you all just cut the instrument panal, or fabbed a new one.

How does that work with an MP3 player? Where do you get the MP3 files? :confused

You burn them as mp3's onto a cd.

But why don't you just use "normal" CD files? Or, do MP3 CDs hold a lot more songs? Is that it?

I put Infinty 6x9's in the back, Infinty 2 10's in the back and I wanted Infinty's 4x6's in the front but they dont fit so I am going to have to order some that fit the dash from ecklers or something O.. And I have Top of the line Panasonic motoerized face plate with remote, you can upload pictures to the thing and look at them on the LCD. O and a Infitiy Digital 300watt amp for the subs. O but this is a 81 :/

I had a 77 that I installed Boston Acoustics 4x6 flat panels in the dash with an alpine deck and an 8" sub and 150 watt amp to drive the sub. Put the sub over in the right rear corner. The deck drove the 2 boston acoustics. The system was dynomite and simple. Just a thought.

:D

Remember, you can install four 4x6's in the front--2 in the dash and 2 behind the kick panels--there's even holes already drilled for speaker mounting there.

Bender, i was able to get infiniti 462.5i 4x6's in my dash of my 74. dont know if our two years are considerably difference in this manner but it is possible.

The speakers are not shallow enough for the dash, they hit the cluster box on the driver side and I dont feel like cutting a hole.

You know I remember the boston acoustics being tight on the drivers side but they did fit.

I think you need to consider what type of sound you want. Do you want quantity or quality, If you want to blow the doors off then you definitly want subs with a powerful amp to run them, If you want quality you may still want a sub or 2 but you will want to watch what you buy as you get what you pay for, a $100 sub will sound nothing like a 3 or $400 sub, you will notice the difference in quality...Getting a good amp is also important as well as the cables you use, especially the RCA cables going from you head unit to the amp, the better you get the better the sound as not as much interference will get in. This has been known in the home stereo industry for some time. If you do do subs you may want to get really fancy and go completely custom and wrap you a$$ in a fiberglass box, you'd be suprise how easy you can make them, here's a good site for it http://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/main/ Head unit will make a difference in the quality of the sound but nothing that a human ear would notice, get one that has all the features you like and one that looks good, as you have to be stylin in the vette. Good luck to you and keep us posted, pics are always good

If you just cut the dash, what do you use to support the cd player? I had mine apart, however, I can't figure out how to support the cd player if I just cut a hole in the bezel. I am working on a 72, so I don't know how different that will be from the later models. I looked into ordering just the bezel for the cd player, one of the corvette places said they would sell the bezel for a cd player for $200.

I just cut the bezel to incorperate a cd player...

Eden72Vet, what i did First, was to get a radio installation kit ... most come with a cd player cage that keeps the cd player from skipping (some come with cd players) and the neccesary hardware to install (for a wuss car) but you will need to do some carefull cutting to the bezel. You need to make the bezel take the cage very tight, if you can manage the cage to fit into the bezel without a lot of slop or mess, then the cd player fits right in

one more thing ... you may need to re-wire the cd player to car system yourself because they dont make adapters for these corvette stock radio adapters (at least i couldnt find any), this should help...but be VERY CAREFULL when cutting the bezel, they are made from recycled aluminum, so if you mess it up, your lookin at about $350 for a new one

1 more thing ... if money isnt an issue, check out www.corvetteamerica.com they have bezel's designed with cd players already installed
