Racing's "silly season" isn't just for drivers. Last week it was announced, shortly after the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season was complete, that Steve Addington intended to leave his post as crew chief for Kurt Busch at Penske Racing. The two had their run-ins, as everyone does with Busch, but the results were good, leaving Busch's No. 22 Dodge Charger 11th in the series standings after the season was complete.
At the time of his championship ascension - for the third time - Tony Stewart's crew chief for the entire duration of Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), Darian Grubb let it be known that he'd been asked to step away from the team during the second Charlotte race, part of the Chase for the Sprint Cup where SHR and Stewart captured five of the 10 contests.
Adding one and one together, it's little surprise that SHR named Steve Addington crew chief for Stewart's No. 14 Chevrolet, effective immediately. Addington is only the third crew chief Stewart has had in his 13-year Sprint Cup career, following Grubb and Greg Zipadelli.
