I thought my fuel gauge problems were solved, but today, my fuel gauge fell to Empty, and I got DTC code 1431 again. I was in Richmond and wanted to speak with Steve Williams, of Tuning by Frost.com. While I was there, he worked me in and reflashed the PCM and did away with the P1431HC code. Not sure how he did it, but he said he did.
I took my car to the dealer last week concerning the DTC P1431HC code, and they said my PCM was up to date, however Steve determined that the PCM had a very early code, so I did not have the most recent update. I paid the dealership to connect the OBDII, but they didn't update the PCM.I am undecided whether to go back to the dealership and demand that they put the most recent updates in the car, or leave it as is. Steve said that if they did update the code, it would erase the fuel mapping and spark advance. Steve said he could do it, but it would take an hour or so to work around the security system.
The car is running well. I am on the fence as to whether to keep my CAI, Granatelli MAF, and Power Duct, or go back to stock. Steve didn't think very highly of aftermarket MAF's, but if I return to stock, he said I would need to take the car back to him to adjust things. I also noticed after the off-dyno calibration, the gas gauge was reading higher than it was before he worked his magic.
I really appreciated Steve working me in around all of the things he had going on.
