Since I think it's likely that I will be going with a stinger hood, does anyone have any advice on how to paint it? I mean, I've seen some where the stinger and hood are all one color. I've seen others where varying portions of the stinger are painted some different color (black, probably - my car is Corvette Light Beige).

And, on the same note, I was possibly considering adding a stripe when I re-paint the car. Of course, this would run right over the stinger, being in the center of the hood. How would that affect the paint scheme? Should the stinger be a third color, or should it simply be the same color as the stripe, or...?

I've 'toyed' with similiar idea regarding my Black '82 w/ Dark Red interior. If I was to go this route, I'd paint the center 'spear' & top of the scoop Dark Red, to match interior, or possibly Bright Silver, to match the chromed N90 wheels. Either way, I'd think it'd follow along the paint-scheme originally used on BB Vettes of the '60s (the cover of the '1953-2003 Black Book' has an excellent photo), and the trim color would 'jive' with the rest of the Vette. Maybe paint the 'spear' & scoop the color of your interior? ;shrug

That's not a bad idea. I also have the dark red interior (RPO 722), but my exterior is "Corvette Light Beige" (RPO 59L).

Any thoughts on exactly where the red should end? The end of the top surface of the scoop? Or should it extend down the sides, and end at the angle where the scoop meets the hood? Or how about just the top, with a red pinstripe down that angled junction? (so the sides of the scoop would be beige, but there would still be a line separating the scoop from the hood)

Just my thoughts of the moment... (and I'm really not very good at paint stuff, so feel free to criticize - I won't take it personally)

I do think that silver would look better with your black car, though, Glen. Silver&black is one of my favorite color combos (except for keeping it clean - road dirt is the reason I got this color car, since it's a daily driver) (once it gets fixed, anyway).

The photo I'm looking at right now (Black Book in hand) shows the top of the 'spear' (in front of the scoop) to be the contrasting color, with a small gap (maybe 1/2" wide?) of the original 'paint', then a pin-stripe of the contrasting color (confused yet?). As for the scoop, only the top is the contrasting color, from the back to the front (scoop opening), with the similiar pinstriping. I found an issue of the May '03 CORVETTE FEVER magazine. On page 14, an ad for ZIP Products shows an up-close side-view of a White hood w/ Blue stinger; the Black Book cover features Black on Red stinger. As for mine, I'm hoping to get this running like a Vette 'should'; I'd feel like a ricer-punk, with a stinger hood on a barely 15-second Corvette.....btw, in my opinion, I'd think Dark Red (my '82 color is coded '742' DARK Red) stinger on your Light Beige would be eye-catching, look 'correct', be one-of-a-kind, and tasteful. Good luck; keep us abreast on your project

Thanks, I'll have to see if I can track those pictures down.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I didn't plan on doing any bodywork until after the mechanical stuff was done, but fate intervened, and I'm not going to replace my stock hood, only to swap it a second time in a couple years.

I could have done without the expense, though... :(

Ah, well :)

Yeah, but you're starting-out with a good, old-fashioned L82 with a carb; you ever think about hopping-up a Cross-Fire?:( :mad :eyerole :cry :puke :crazy :hb ;help

I think we need a "wiping drool off chin" smiley, here :)

Another stinger paint question, while I'm at it: The original C2 stinger hoods had a chrome insert in the scoop, correct? If so, do you think that painting the inside of the scoop silver might be a good idea? (until I re-do the engine, anyway, at which time the scoop will become functional)
