The car is at the shop getting the motor pulled....the work begins soon in my garage on the motor compartment.....BUT.....as this goes back together, what should I do concerning the generator? it works.....so...should I get the tach going again hooked up to the motor? should I can it and get an alternator? how does the generator know how fast it is going? is there anything that is calibrated with the motor in terms of pulley ratios that might be off now with the 350 cu in Camaro motor?

if you notice the generator in the bottom of the picture....it has the shaft sticking out but needs the rest of the stuff to make it functional...is it worth getting going? Comments from the experienced is appreciated!!!

From your picture it looks like you have all the original shroud and fan and maybe the correct pulleys. You can check the part numbers on the pulleys to see if they are correct. The drive unit for the generator is a bit over $100 from the catalogs.

If your goal is to have a stock or "vintage" appearing engine and compartment, go with the generator.

What engine is in the picture?

Not planning on having a vintage looking car nor engine....engine is a 350 cu in mid 70's Camaro motor according to the block casting number. I am having the motor pulled (don't have the equipment to do it myself) and right now I am planning on pulling the stock radiator and going with a deWitt Aluminum radiator with electric fan...plan on cleaning up the compartment....changing out the seats to Wise guy Seats and already have a Budnik Billet wheel....will paint it Corvette Torch Red (like my '03 Z) with white coves.....and some really great wheels...yet to be determined...but I like the wheels on my Z, they are Ronals...18 on the front and 19 on the back...and they always catch a look at shows and on the road....so I want to have a nice car, one that will take a shine....make me proud.....and have some get up and go...which the car has now, but will be better once Ricks Speed Shop does its thing to it.....

So I am trying to figure out my options.......let me know....regards, Herb

Hi Herb

This is the 70's 350 I am working on for my red 'n white '59. I kept the generator because I want the vintage look. The classic corvette valve covers had to be raised a bit to clear the roller setup. I still have to modify a C1 air cleaner to work on the Edelbrock carb. And I still have to come up with a PCV system. Which brings up a question about your motor. In your pic, I can't see a PCV system, just the breather on the oil fill tube. Are there any other breathers or a valve that just can't be seen?
