I believe I have the original rally rims on my 76 and the tires are shot. After reading a lot of threads I believe I am going with 255-60-15. The question I have is on my rims, If you take a tape measure across the rim from outside to Inside it is 9 inches across. Is that how you measure it? Seems like most rims i have heard of are 7 or 8 inches. Does that change the tire size I can put on it? Thanks for your help.:drink

By 1976 I'm pretty sure oem was 8" wide. 255-60-15 will work and was oem size on later models.

The rim is measured from inside bead to inside bead. Your rims are considered 8" rims and when you measure like you did, you include the thickness of the lip.

I have the stock wheels on mine with Good Year 255-60-15 and they work fine.

All 69-82 stock wheels are 8" wide as noted above. The standard tire size was not 255/60R15 but rather 225/70R15 from '73-'82. 255/60R15 was an OPTIONAL tire from 78-82 and to ensure it fit the factory trimmed the fiberglass back in those years. If you are interested in a performance tire - consider the 225/70R15 - it's the correct size for your year, will not rub the front fenders and there are still a few perf tires in this size unlike 255/60R15. Good luck!

Back when I had 15" rims, I was running 235/60/15 in the front and 255/60 15 in the rear. Gave the car a nice ride and nice look with no rubbing.
