recently i have heard several pops through my amp and have smelled a electrical smell in the cockpit. I also have had no power at times when I went to start car. I was able to wiggle the battery terminals and get the car started. Yesterday I went to start the car and it is DEAD!!
No clicking, nothing!!!
The clock doesn't even run.
replaced battery with a new one---putting out 12.5 volts at the terminals. Checked the ground from negative terminal to the frame and it is ok, I cleaned and reattached, so this isn't it. Still no power.any ideas where to go next??
oh yeah, I thought maybe I blew the main 30amp breaker so I replaced that and still no go..............
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By 30 amp breaker are you referring to the fusible link. If not, you might want to replace it. I don't have my electrical book here but I think the link may be between the battery and the starter. The fact that you can wiggle the wires at the battery terminal and get it started suggests to me as a starting point problems relating to the connections with one of those wires

Thanks for the quick reply. I immediately thought the same as you and replaced the battery (freebie) and cleaned all connections. Still nothing. The 30 amp breaker is in the fuse box. I read many old responses to electrical problems and believe that my problem may be the fusible link you refer to. I will replace over the weekend and let you know.

Check the starter connections... esp the grounds! There is one on the bottom of the starter, and another that goes off the side and connects to the frame.

Get a Voltmeter.....My, My, Why not use a Voltmeter instead of replacing parts just to see if it fixes the problem. Everyone should have one, they can be bought for less then $10. You can tell right away if the fuseable link is blown or fuse is blown. Resistance test can tell if a ground is good. It's not hard to use one.

If you could smell smoke then something is burnt up somewhere..........

Lucky 76---used a voltmeter and checked continuity to the starter...was ok.
fusible link "a" was ok.......
Problem was fusible link "b" was blown...replaced and all is fixed!
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!
