While driving earlier I noticed a strong oil smell inside the car. I'm sure it was coming from my car because it even happened while no other cars were near me. I got home and checked the oil level, it was good. There was a small amount of smoke / steam coming from the dipstick hole. The car isn't running hot, and the oil pressure is good. I recently had the oil pressure sensor replaced, could this be the cause? It's a 2000 auto with 120,000 miles on it.

Any feedback is appreciated (unless you say the oil smell is coming from me):D

thanks,

Larry

It may be just some residual oil left on the engine case after the repair. Keep an eye on the oil and tran fluid levels. If it is just leftover oil it should burn off in a few days.

I guess I didn't explain too good, the sensor replacement was about 2 months ago, or about 1000 miles. I think any residue oil would have burnt off by now.

120,000 miles? Check to see if the valve cover gaskets if they are seeping oil onto the exhaust manifold (it'll smell). They'll leak for a while without any oil drops hitting the ground.
