I finished rebuilding the front suspension and have started on the rear. But I have run into a problem getting the srtut rod shafts off. After 22 years the rust is so bad it is like they are welded in. I have tried heat and some good penetrating oil with a big hammer to no avail they wont budge. does anyone know the best way to remove them. I am not worried about damage to them as they are being replaced. I was going to cut them off between the spindle support and the strut rod and then drill what remains out of the spindle support. Will this work or is there an easier way.

I went through the same thing on a 63 last week(same basic suspension).A reciprocating saw was the only way.I also had to use the saw on the trailing arm bolts.

I don't have a good answere as to how to get them out as I have fought with these many times.I can tell you drilling them out may not work as the shaft that goes through has a flat on it so it won't rotate around (On the outboard part that has the shock on it). It has to be pushed straight out. Heat to red and a hammer has worked in the past for me even on frozen ones. Hope this helps.

Ok Just wanted to make sure I wasnt doing something wrong. I need to go down to my friends house and borrow his torch so I get more heat. my little propane torch isnt doing the trick here.

I used a bearing puller on mine. Lots of force and several hits and PBblaster. Got them off without damage.
