I've had my 76 Project Car for about 2 weeks now. "Project" being the understatement of the year, but I'm rather excitable about these things, so I'm going for the whole enchilada. I've been very uninterested in under the hood items since my focus has been on a complete rebuild of the interior first, which I refer to as "the rust bucket" at the moment. I wanted to remove the dash harness and attempted to open the hood to disconnect from the firewall, and the darn hood has decided it will not unlatch on the passenger side. It has only been open one time since I got it. It is not very well aligned. Any suggestions short of ripping it off? If I need to provide any more info, let me know.

I found this from here, maybe it will help.

“Description:
This is one of those hair pulling, tool throwing, and foul language generating problems that is easy to understand but a killer to fix! First, try removing the small panel behind the drivers side front wheel and reach up and try to pull the cable that comes through the firewall toward the rear of the car. This may trigger the latches and pop open the hood. If that doesn't work, remove the front grills, loosen the front hinges, and try to wiggle the hood while someone else pulls the cable. If these suggestions don't work, take it to a Vette repair shop.”

The cable is probably broken from Lt. latch to Rt. Latch!! There are Two Holes under back of Hood down by wipers,1 on ea side with a plastic plug in them through cowl!! Knock out plug and trigger latch manually!! Requires a long rod to get to latch about 6 in. past cowl!!! This Job SUCKS and takes allot of time!! And several trys just had the problem on my 76!! I had to call Bossvette and have him take photos of his 76 Latches so I could see where I had to tripp the Latch!! :upthumbs http://

I had a simular problem. Took mine to the Vette shop. They took care of it. But you should have seen the bruises and scratches on their arms when they were done.

That worked!!! (Mad Vet Tech Tip). No bruises, no screaming! Probably because I did all of that last night........The pictures made all the difference. Thank you very large!

Mine only unlatched on the driver's side once. I was able to slide my hand under the hood and pull on the cable that goes to the passenger side.

The first thing I did thereafter was adjust that cable!

My cable was broken and the release latch appeared rather bent to one side. Didn't notice it before I closed the hood for the first time 'cause I wasn't expecting such an event. Think that will be the first of many unexpected events on this project. Life is boring when there are no challenges to stimulate your cortex.:D

You can close the latches by pushing them down with a screwdriver simulating the hood, and adjust the cable until the latches pop simultaniously.:)

Excellent idea! I will write this down in the journal. Thanks:)
