Well check engine light came on. So I decided to learn more and bought scanner. BTW 96 lt1 21000 miles stock.. Anyway ran scan and came up with PO101 Mass or Volume Circuit range performance problem. What the heck is this and what to do about it. Thanks

DTC code P0101 refers to Mass Air Flow System Performance. My factory service manual lists 22 steps that could be taken to isolate the problem. Good news is that it may not be the Mass Air Flow Sensor, but something like a vacuum leak, PCV system or PCV valve, broken or loose wire, disconnected connector, or engine oil dip stick not seated.
I own an AutoXray scanner but I think I would have to buy the more detailed software to diagnose this problem.
Look for the simple stuff, and examine the MAF sensor....it may be damaged. Will your scanner do Freeze frame or recall saved Failure Records?
Good luck. :)

Cheap basic scanner, but will do freeze frame . Will attempt that tonight when i get home from work. I am really a rookie at this and am stumbling along. Do not have factory service manual , only Haynes manual which is not a whole lot of help with this. Have digital multi tester for electrical circuits but need to know which ones to test and how. Thanks bruce

I highly recommend the factory service manual if you want to scientifically solve problems with your car. I got mine on eBay after several attempts, and it is very reassuring to know that I have the same source of information that the dealers had. I already had a BIG lie told to me by a Chevy service rep about the low tire pressure warning system, but fortunately other CAC members gave me info from the factory manual (before I had one).
As I mentioned, the trouble code you mentioned does not necessarily mean the MAF is bad, but caused by something related or just bad wires or connections.
I originally bought a Haynes manual, because it is better than nothing, but when it comes to the really technical stuff, Haynes is pretty useless.
If you give me time, I can send a pdf or jpg of the pages related to this trouble code. I haven't used my page scanner for so long, I can't recall if it works with my current OS.

thanks would love to have those pages. Am new at this and new at vette ownership , did not realize value of service manual nor have had time to order same. But willl check it out real soon. If you can get scanner going email to brewshill2003@yahoo.com. BTW did not get home from work till late so could not run road test with scanner hooked up yet. Thanks for your help . Bruce

got service information manual 5 cds on ebay for $25. Afew small problems installing and getting to work on my computer. But it works seems worht the money but so far have only been able to look up engine and tranny problems, the rest of the systems are not coming up. Will platy around withn a little more to see if that info is there. If anybody else bought this and has a clue howe to access other info ie. LTPWS susoension , lights , let me know.

Back to original problem of po101 code. Used test procedure from manual. found loose fire to MAF ,fixed connection , clear code and everything seems okay now. Thanks to all and especially WAWHITE

Happy to hear you found the problem. A lot of the troube codes are caused by the simple things, not always a failure of a major (expensive) part. It is always good to look over your engine compartment for any loose hoses or connections.
Imagine how much you saved over taking it to a dealer. I'm sure you will figure out the CD and be able to access all the Corvette info. Has any one replied that they have the CD........it seems like the most affordable way to have the factory manuals. :cool
