Can I get a supercharger for my 79 Vette? If so where can I get it and how much money? How much horsepower will it add? Also is there any other high performance parts I can put on that will boost horse power?

Yes, but you'd have to cut a hole in your hood.... a BIG hole. How much power??? Lots. How much? Better off just buying a late model LS1 Z28 or Trans Am.

You can also do lots of other, less expensive mods... Camshaft, intake manifold, heads, Headers, exhaust, shift kit, rear gears... ton's of stuff out there.

What are your realistic goals?
:confused

Do you just wanna look like a Pro-Streeter, run 8-second ETs, or just have your C3 run like a C5?

I was told they have super charges that can clear the hoods?

Turbo chargers Yes. Superchargers no. They don't make any low profile superchargers for your year engine. Do a Google search for superchargers to find out, but you will be dissappointed.

Damn... Also isnt it a ***** to put turbo's on a 350?

As a big fan of engine swaps and EFI...

I'd buy a Vortec TPI motor from SDPC and slap a modded TPI system on.

It would be a lot of work. But if you enjoy doing the wrench thing it can be a lot of fun. And money.

Don't forget- you can purchase a centrifugal supercharger with a "carb box".

Bender-

I take it you want more speed right? Look into a Golen engine. They have 3k-4k motors with comparable horsepower to what your engine would produce as-is with superchrging , heads, cam, and bottom end reinforcement at a better price. Your factory smog era motor doesn't seem to be important to you so a fresh mill with more power maybe the way to go. I'd leave the exotic induction out since you don't want to get in over your head.

O I already have a new crate engine. I am good in that department and all smog crap is removed. Along with computer :)

Before my ex got her claws into me i had a look at this for my Vette. For a 671 style blower complete with carbs and all the bits needed was about £4k Sterling and i would have put the old iron heads back on, an alternative was one of those low profile single carb blowers from Holley which would have been a bit cheaper and it would have been possible to get a custom hood to cover it.

I also got a price to have a 9" Ford fitted with ladder bar set up and chioce of gears and no cutting of the chassis at £3k Sterling plus something for a couple wheels and tyres to fit the axle.

Lots of ways to skin a cat just depends on what you are looking for, crate engines are easy and relatively cheap or you can buy a kit from Summit, Holley or Edelbrock with heads, cam and so on if you fancy the challenge of doing it yourself.

Almost everything in my car is original so I dont want to drop a different motor. I just want to add some power. From what I hear there is no supercharger but there is a turbo charger. Whats the difference and where can I get one?

Are we talking superchargers or blowers. A supercharger is a belt driven turbo charger, A blower is a big positive displacement pump that moves a set quantity of air.
I run a 8-71 blower because it is not rpm dependent. I can get almost full boost from idle on up.
The supercharger builds boost with rpm. At cruising speeds the blower with just a slight throttle opening instantly puts out boost. A supercharger requires more rpm and at 3000 the boost is very low.
Supercharges are also hard to fit under the hood but might be possible, A blower is just too big and requires a hole.

This is my bigblock with 8-71 blower

Hey DarkShark78, that centrifugal supercharger sounds really interesting. Self contained lubrication so no lines to the oil pan, really neat. There's a lot of great video's on their web page which are obviously sales tools but it sounds like a nice product. Wonder if anyone on this board has checked into it??? Seems like one challenge might be where to mount the intercooler.

Good!!

Bender- since you have an '81....I have a question- how integrated is the CCC (compu-carb!) integrated into the harness?

Better question- how difficult is it to pull the wires for the computer controlled carb out of the car- as if they were never there.

I have a swap that I am thinking about doing with an '81- that is if it isn't too much of a pain in the butt. If it is- I just won't mess with one and get an 80 instead. I'd rather not play with stripping the whole harness out to get the measly CCC system.
