Hello everyone,
New member first post. I am impressed with the level of knowledge and shared info in this forum. Thanks for the support. I do have a question, my 96 Vette has been in my garage for a month and havent driven it more than 25 miles. The car has developed a surging when operating above 30 mph. I am getting a code P1022 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor A Circuit Low Input. I have no idea what that means. I purchased a FSM it should be here in a week or so. I have taken the TB off and cleaned it, replaced the IAC valve, TPS, new plugs, new wires, basic leak check, fuel pressure regulator, checked fuel pressure at 38psi, fuel filter, fresh tank of gas with SeaFoam added and I am stumped. Is my next step to take it to the dealership and open my wallet?

Short answer. No

Wait for the FSM and follow the tuning procedure, including setting proper voltage on the TPS, etc. Ensure you measure voltages with an electronic voltmeter and remember, the computer can really help isolate problems, but the basics of any engine still apply; such as vacuum leaks and on these cars, good wiring/connectors for the sensors.

I don't have a '96 manual, but earlier ones have excellent flowcharts for ECM codes. :w

I agree, wait on your FSM, but one thing I had happen in my own experience was my connector at the MAF sensor was pretty corroded and green, so I disconnected the sensor..took the MAF off the air filter intake, cleaned the wires with maf sensor cleaner..while letting that air dry, I used a wooden toothpick, and cleaned the hell of out the connectors..and then checked each one for continuity. I found one that was bad, so I ordered a new three prong connector, clipped the old one off, and put the intake and MAF back together, and plugged in the new spliced in connector to the MAF. my idle and surging issue went away. MY experience..but something for you to check. '94 Lt1 with no mods. Best, Derek

First...don't waste your money with Sea Foam.

Secondly...the TPS fault can be diagnosed with the Service Manual you have on order. A problem with the TPS or its associated wiring and connections can cause the symptoms you have.

The throttle position sensor (TPS) tells the engine computer how far open the throttle is, ie: how much you're pushing on the accelerator pedal. If the data it sends the ECM is faulty, that can cause the engine to idle too fast or surge.
