Can a 4+3 be swapped out for a 700R4 auto without breaking the bank?

Depends on the bank.

It should work you would need a longer drive shaft and a longer torque arm or c-beam, a new flexplate and torue converter, plus the Corvette 700R4 has a unique tailshaft housing to accomidate the torque arm. Dont forget the proper speedo gears for the tranny, and the shifter, tv cable, ect.

You may want to look into replacing the 4+3 with a ZF, ROD, or a T-56 from a F-body. I would guess it would be the same price either way. You actually have it easier, trying to go from auto to manual is tougher.

By the way, what is an F body? I have searched the internet and found a couple of replacement 6 speeds. Also, Ecklers has instructions to replace the 4+3 with a Richmond 6 speed that they sell. A good rebuilt I have found is around 1900.00-2100. It is on Ebay. I want to be able to go to the repair shop with my guns loaded and know a little bit about the installation, time it takes, what all has to be done. Any help would be great. I know Ken put a richmond in his C-4 but am looking to see if he has any installation guidance on what exactly has to be done.

The GM F bodies were the Camaro and Firebird/Trans Am.

I have seen ZF's go for around $1800 you may want to shop around. Here is another place that may be able to get one or they may even have one. www.corvettesalvage.com If you call talk to Adam or Mike.

The guy that I bought my Vettes from sells the transmission and everything you need to do that swap for about $1000. If you want his name and phone number, send me a e-mail or pm and I'll send it over to you.
