Need to know if anyone has had a stress crack on the inside of glass top it's in the left side corner. Just happened yesterday. Up-set over it. Three weeks ago had seals repaced wounder if seals shrunk and put pressure on the glass. Does that make sense can it be repaired or junk?

Thanks,Janine:cry

Are you saying the glass actually cracked or the framing?I have heard of extreme heat doing this ,could that be possible?

Paintdaddy

Yes, The glass cracked on the inside 4 inches long left hand corner.I found out today Cindy Rowe does not plug them, or even work on t-tops.Looks likes I need to find a used one. The outside of top is fine right now inside you feel it. The weather here in PA. has been beautiful. Not that hot.

Don't purchase anything until you check out Carlisle next month. Also,I have a source I deal with in Chicago for t-tops. I'll give him a call tomorrow so you can get an idea on price. What is the tint color of your tops?

81kix...

My White '81 passenger side "inside back corner" of the t-top cracked with a 4" crack too. Just bought a replacement top on ebay for $300. I wonder what's up with this? Think it has something to do with White painted '81 vettes? ;shrug

I'll wait it's killing me because I would like to drive it now, But I do not want to hit the wrong bump and shatter it. I think it is the Bronze, when you look down on the top from the outside it looks almost like a mirror. From the inside it is blue. I will check tomorrow for the numbers and writing on it. Then I will post. I know the judges at the NCRS show said, it was a hard one to replace. They felt my pain looking at it. We feel it had to do with getting new T-top seals and Weatherstrips for doors and windows. They were not put in right. For the past few weeks in order for the windows to hit seals I had to push the windows and doors at the same time. The force and possible combination of the heat cracked it.
Thanks Dave

Sorry to here about your luck :cry It's not Friday the 13th or is it. I hope it has nothing to do with White 81 Vettes. By the way nice car, looks very familiar.

blue tint top

Janine- I just spoke to my 't-top guy' in Chicago. He said the original blue tint tops are nearly impossible to find new. He said the problem even if you find a new one is because of fading the tops will appear different. It looks like a used one is the way to go. Look around at Carlise. If you find one with decent glass you could transfer your hardware on to that one. As noted above,I've seen them show up ocassionally on ebay. Just make sure its a glass top to match yours and not the plastic or plexi glass top.
I hope this helps....

Dave

Someone told me last night that the guy in Alabama that mainly does c4 tops also does T tops. The guy told me that they run 500 per side. This includes rebuilding the entire top not just the glass. But you will still have a matching problem.I think Id just look for a used one.

I appreciate everyones help on this problem. i will look into all options. Thanks

This is what ie says on the T-top....Blue Safety
LOF
FLO-Lite
As-3
LX
Laminated
Dot 15M1131

Does that help you, to let me know if I was right on the Glass color. Which I think it is the mirror/Bronze.

I'm going to call my Insurance Company today to see if it is covered under my full coverage.

Thanks again, a more information you can give would be great!

From the looks of the description you have an original factory blue mirrored glas top. Unfortunately the reproductions will not match at all. Best to look for a used one if you want them to look right. On the up side, my right side top has had a crack in the rear inside corner for several years and has never bothered. I believe that I cracked it when jacking up the car before I learned how delicate these were. It almost impossible to see from outside the car. The glass is laminated like your windshield so it won't shatter so not to worry about that.

DDL-81

Sorry to hear about your t-top, But you made me feel better hearing your story. :D Mine is the same way as yours so at least I know, I may have a few more years with mine.

I have some good news called insurance agent today. It is covered through something called glass loss. Through comprehensive. Then they called a place called Win Moble Auto glass. Win Moble said, they will have them in Thursday or Friday of next week with hardware. I told them I need both or it would not match the otherside because of color difference. They understood. This is not going to cost me a penny. Thank God for smooth talking and full coverage.
:D :beer
so now I'll have my originals plus the other set.

Thank you all for your fast help.

Thats great news Janine!! I thought about filing a claim on mine as I have no deductable on glass. But for now I'm content with the original LOF Blue mirrored even if one is cracked.
