I am replacing the weatherstripping on my t-tops,after taking off most of the old weatherstripping,I notice a lot of old adhesive? around the outside of where the weatherstripping was.Should all of this goop be removed?,or is it from where the frame is glued to the glass, and then reapply the adhesive with the new weatherstripping?? I have searched thru the old threads and can't find anything about it!

thanks

Hi Bill,

I hope I'm not too late. I would remove all the goop as it will adversely affect the bond of the new stripping. I used varsol to remove the old stuff. I just let it sit a few minutes then scrapped it of with a garsket scraper. Worked like a charm.

I find that a product called "At-Tack", which has one ingredient: emulsified organic hydrocarbon; it is distributed by a company called Veriad (Formely UAL), where I once worked at. "At-Tack" is specifically formulated to remove adhesive without harming any non-porous surfaces. Even thou it is intended for removing adhesive style labels, I have been successful in removing almost any type of orhganic adhesive (about the only UPA approved adhesive these days). You can get it from Veriad, located at 650 Columbis Rd, Brea, CA 92621 (800) 423-4643.
