A friend of mine wants to change out his trans. from a 350 to a 400 because of the motor mods that he made...he is going over 500HP.......the problem is the lenght of the tailshaft... it is 7.5 inches to long.... he is using a Hughs trany....Has anyone ever tried this modification before??? This will be going in a 1976 Corvette
thanks in advance

Was "fun" putting a GearVendors behind a T400....

Monster sawzall and tunnel rebuild job....still no ebake or seat belts yet.

I would think the swap between the two, aside from a new driveshaft (shortening/lengthening/etc.) this shouldn't be too bad. I think the action of the shift linkage is similar, but you might need a custom shift cable and such. I need to go back to the guy who put in my GV to have him install a sender cable that broke, and rig the ebrake and seat belts. If I think about it, I'll ask him.

From what I can tell the '75's and before had T400's, and again in the latter of the C3's. Since the T350 is only somewhat smaller dimensionally, mainly front to rear, the drive shaft and perhaps design of tranny mount should be the main difference. I don't believe the crossmember moved.

From what I remember there is a short tail saft 400 which is the same length as the 350. If you get that trans, it is very easy change with no parts needed.

The 76 uses the same diff as all other C3's up to '79. As long as you are running the stock diff, just find a drive shaft from a T400 vette, drop in the tranny... and the shaft. You are good to go.

My car came with the T400 from the factory... it was designed to fit!!!

there is a long and short th400 ,the long will not fit easily, the shorter will.you will have to change the yoke, transmission mount, linkage bracket for the swap regardless.also the 400 has an electric kickdown not cable driven like the 350
