tach drive?? distribitor question??

I have a MSD HEI dist. on the motor that is getting ready to go in (hopefully this weekend) Will my factory tech work?? I have seen threads on tach shaft (I assume like a speedo shaft) used for a vette. Is this correct, and id so, will this work on a modified, Non-stock dist such as MSD, Mallory etc.

What is part number of MSD dist?

If it's a tach drive MSD for chevy ... going in a 74 & back C3 ... it'll work. Just remember to put the little tach drive adapter (msd pn 8491) sleeve into the distributor's drive before you insert the tach cable into it. It has a square hole (to fit vette mechanical tach cable) and a round diameter w/ tang (to fit the msd distributor).
