Hey!

I got a 72 Vette that has a tach drive tachometer. I recently discovered oil in my distributor and I saw the seals are bad. The current distributor is a Mallory Unilite with recessed wire terminals which has performed flawlessly for 15 YEARS!! Now that it is tired I want to replace it with something better. However since the tach drive is considered ancient by most, does anyone know if anybody makes a tach drive HEI with post terminals or an equal power distributor like MSD or something so I don't have to butcher my dash to change the tachometer to electronic? I know it may sound strange keeping such an old tech item, but I only want to change the distributor. I don't want to wrestle with the dash if I don't have to. Thanks to all who help.

MSD makes a billet dist. with tach drive for the corvette. Look in Jeg's for it. You have to buy the box too.

Call Mr Gasket for the model number of the Mallory mechanical drive HEI tach that will replace your worn out unit. I accidentially discovered it's availability during a conversation with one of their reps.

I've seen one in Madvette catalog & others ... it looks just like any other large cap (coil in cap) HEI ... but it has a mechanical tach drive ... it has posts for standard HEI terminals ... it's a stand-alone unit ... does not require an MSD box ... it was just shy of $500.

Mallory-MSD

I had a dual point tach drive Mallory in my 62 which I changed over to unilite (sp?). I still have it actually in a box for sale but have since gone with a tach drive MSD from Summit and I "think" it was around $350 an additional $100 for the tach drive. When I rewired the car two years ago, I went with an Autometer electric that came very close to the hole in the dash and after a little round filing, it fit perfect.
