I am forever pulling my seats in and out. To make life alot easier to do this job I install carb studs in the floor. The bolts holding the seats are 5/16 coarse. A carb stud is 5/16 coarse on one end and fine on the other. Studs 1 3/4 long can be inserted in the floor, I use green loctite and install 4 studs.
Now the seat is simple to install. Just drop it over the studs, easy to align and install 4 nuts and washers.
Alot quicker then trying to line up the holes and start the bolts.
Anyway for racing the passenger seat can be remove in about 2 minutes. Use a 1/2 socket, a 6 inch extension and ratchet and the nut is quickly removed, not hard to get at and lift out the seat.
Do it a few times and it becomes easy.
Years ago when I was heavy in street racing my passengers seat spend most of it's life in a garage.
5/16 th carb studs 1 3/4 long work great.

NOt really but some guys are after the last pound.
For me it is the ability to pull or install the seats in a few minutes.
I want everything about working on the car to be easy. Install the studs is effortless without the seats in the car. AFter that it is just a matter of setting the seat over the studs and quickly installing the nuts.
If you don't work on your car this is useless but if you really live VETTES then working on them is part of it.
This is a good tip for installing removing seats. Takes away the flustration of trying to align the bolts and getting them started. Use it or ignore it, makes no difference but it is a good tip.

You could leave out the tire and jack!! Then you won't need to remove the seats.

Then, you could put in 79-82 seats (they are lighter) and a composite rear spring (go from 80lbs to 10lbs in the spring alone).

What is a spare tire? Haven't drove a single mile in the 14 or 15 years I owned this vet. My seats are lighter weight versions already and as for springs I run coilovers all around.
I am not after the ability to suddenly loose the passengers seat for racing. I just try to make everything as easy to work on as possible. Studs always make life easier.
Another good place for studs is in the bellhousing to transmission. Starting bolts while holding a standard transmission up is hard. Install 4 studs, slide the tranny over them and it holds the weight while you start the nuts. I know transmissions are swapped regularly but I did 4 in my car in one summer.
Make life easier for yourself and anytime you get to improve how something is done do it.

ken, just ask any STUD, i am sure he'll confirm his life is easier

Guys I am into horses in a big way and a STUDS life is hell. You only get laid a couple of times a year, you are always by yourself, always and you pace the fence looking at the ladies, waiting, always waiting.
As for the sex it lasts all of 30 seconds if you lucky and your put back in the field to again pace the fence.
YOu do run yourself skinny in the summer just from anxiety.

NO a gelding/ a cut stud has a better social life, can relax and enjoy friends.
