i have a 96 collector's edition. great shape. darnest thing happened - the black round cover that goes over the water temp dial, fell off and is sitting there. I want to take the dash glass off so i can put this little black round piece back on. Do I just take the 4 screws that hold the dash insert around the steering wheels out. Thanks for any help

This from a 95 manual

I/P Cluuster Trim Plate.

1. Remove ignition key.
2. Multi-use lever, pull out.
3. Tilt steering wheel down.
4. Unscrew Tilt lever.
5. Left air outlet assembly.
Trim plate screws & trim plate.

The lense is held in by screws.

Maybe someone who has done this has a better answer?

Instrument cluster lens removal

I don't know if the cluster on a 96 is different than my 94 but as I remember I just took out a few screws. You have to lower the steering wheel and jockey the lens a bit but it comes out and replaces fairly easily. I had to bend it a bit to get it back in but it isn't hard, 10-15 minute job. I had mine out to polish out some cloudy spots from some kind of solvent or something (not from me) Looks like new now. Good luck.

thanks for the info. I did it myself. took about a hour to do. i took the 4 screws out that hold the bezel in for the dash. than the 4 screws that hold the glass in. easy as pie. i couldn't fing the little black round plug that went on top of the dial, so i went to the chevy dealer - you can't get the part. they told me it was because they don't want you to mess around with the dash cluster - afraid you'll set the speedo back. so i looked again under the dash, found the cover and used a drop of super glue. looks great now.

polish out some cloudy spots

How did you polish the cloudy spots out. I have spots too (not from me).

Thanks,

I don't know if your spots will give up under this treatment but here goes. I know this sounds weird but I use Brasso polish. It's the same old stuff you (I) used in the Army to clean your brass insignia. I've used this before on the plastic parts of my old radio's. Try a little on an area you can't see, like the upper part and test for melt down. I cleared my spots up about 90% and cannot see them from any location in the car. They were slightly visible when looking through the lens. YMMV Good Luck.

Thanks Pete94!

I'll try it on my van first, my wife really nailed that one.

Thanks,
