I understand now that there are two pumps in the fuel tanks, one for the motor and the other is a transfer pump.
I think my transfer pump may be going kaput. After a 110 mile trip, I pulled off the freeway and hear a whirring sound behing me. The noise seemed louder standing on the L side of the vehicle just behind the driver's door. The whirring pitch did not change when the motor was revved. Therefore, I think it is the transfer pump. The sound just stopped as quickly as it came on.
I am concerned, we will be taking a trip soon. If the pump fails, will the car still run? I took the car in when the sound was present and when I took the car back for the repair, no more sound.... will GM honor the repair if it fails when my warranty expires early next year?
Help would be appreciated
