Had the A/C compressor replaced. Switched to 134, replaced drier, orfice. The air coming out of the grills is down in the 20 F range. This is much colder than when I had R12. The mechanic said it called for three cans of 134, however, he only put in two, and did not think it needed more due the air terperature. Is this air too cold? It cools the car but does not get too cold in the car after being on for a while. 85 + outside. Should he add the other can. Thanks for the help.

If it starts to get warm after awhile the condensor might be getting too hot. 134 is a hotter gas than R12. Are your fans coming on when the A/C is on?What is the engine temp while running the A/C.Are you sure about the 20 Degrees?

HPG, you mean 20 degrees less than ambient, correct?

Yes, the fan is on and the engine temp is around 200 F. Yes, the air out of the grill is 28 F.

Frankly, I think you should ask your mechanic where he'd like a kiss. I'd be tickled to have 28F in duct w/ 85F ambient.

Thanks, I will recheck with another thermometer tomorrow. The air flow did not stop, so I don’t think the evaporator did ice up. Hopefully, the thermometer was wrong. I’ll add the extra ½ can and see if that helps.

28F at the Duct is extremely rare, it's normally around 35 to 40
