Hello new member, need help trying to find temp gauge wire. I know its green wire but does it come from drivers side fender or the middle of firewall. Any help or advice would help. Thank you

Hi Bill, the temp sending unit on my 79 is on the left (drivers side) dark green wire between 1 & 3 cylinders. Should be easy to see, have you checked the fuse?

I moved this to the C3 Technical forum. It should get more attention here. :CAC

What gec said.
Green wire comes from the wiring harness along the driver's side fender and goes to the Temp sensor on the block just between the #1 and #3 cylinder below the exhaust manifold. It is a push-on connector to the sensor.
The sensor is a brass sender unit about 1 -1/4" in diameter.
The wire runs just about directly under your alternator.

I've got a similar problem but alot my wiring has been chopped out. I've located the single green wire for the sensor on the drivers side bank but I can't locate the wiring or the circuit for the auxilary fan. My assembly manual shows that there may be two senors, one on the drivers side bank for the gage and one on the right (passengers) side for the auxilary fan. (If I'm reading the drawings correctly). My problem is that the original motor was an L48 (blown up) and an auxillary fan was not an option on the L48 model. The motor I installed is a 1976 L82 and the second senor hole is plugged. I'm assuming that the wire harness was the same for the 1979 L82 and the L48. Does anybody know what wire(s) or colour(s) goes to the fan. From what I've read this set up seemed to change in the 1980 and up to a single dual sensor. I purchased a new Auxilary fan extension harness. so I can go either way I suppose. Can I ask a little guidance from any 1979, 1980, 1981 owners?

Thanks,
Steve
