Had my radio replaced today. As I am driving home, notice the temp gauge light has faded-- much dimmer than the oil pressure and other read-outs. Could the bulb have been moved when new radio installed? Am wondering if this is a coincidence or if installer screwed something up. Not having seen the back of dash, I don't know how close the gauge wiring is to radio. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

First welcome to the forum. Now to your problem. What kind of radio did you have put in? Was the wiring replaced, and speakers? Or did you just have the head unit replaced? I guess if they just replaced the head unit, the wiring for the digital cluster should not have been disturbed. If you could provide some more info it would be great.

P.S. Dont forget to :w.

Thanks for the reply. New head unit, so not much if any rewiring. Which leads me to believe a coincidence. I thought about taking it back to them to fix, but am worried they know radios, but not vette experts and will mess it up worse. I can live with the dim light for now.

I wouldn't have them do anything with your car. Like you said they are not vette experts. On my digital cluster the Tach part is slightly dimmer than the rest of the panel. I know how expensive they are to repair, so I am just going to live with it. I am a student at purdue and major in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program. I dont think I would attempt to find this problem. For one I dont have a good schematic. So if you can and your problem doesn't get any worse I would wait. It is possible they severed a wire when they slid the new head unit in. There really are multiple things that could've happened.

Good luck

Craig

Thanks vetteboy. I think you are right. Will live with it rather than make the problem worse.
Good luck at Purdue.

It's unlikely that the stereo installation would have anything to do with it, even after removing the bezel the dash is in there pretty secure and they wouldn't have any reason to remove it. My bulbs go dim once in a while but then they come right back on again when the car is warmed up. I read somewhere about cleaning the connections with an eraser and then plugging it back in again, if the light goes on and off. If it stays off permanently, you need to replace the bulb.
