temp????

hellow all.......

i was sitting in heavy traffic today and i my coolant temp went to 235..then we started to move and she went back down to 198. my ? is what temp does the coolant have to hit before fans kick in??? my vette is an 02 auto with 6k.........thanks.....

It can be alarming to see temps that high, but aluminum blocks like to run hotter than cast iron blocks. Fan 1 comes on at 219º, Fan 2 comes on at 235º.

You might want to look up behind the center air dam and check to see if any road debris is blocking the condenser, or if the foam "seal" by the radiator shroud is deteriorated/dislodged/missing.

Turn your Air Con on. This happens to me all the time and when I see it going over 220 I turn on the AC and it brings the temp down to below 200 in seconds....kicks both fans on .....sooo run AC when over 220.

Mine runs about the same and has hit over 225 setting in traffic. . . . . . This sounds about normal to me.
