I just reciently put a new motor and new thermostat new water pump. When I start the the motor up the temp just climbs or climbs and will red line. Then if I turn the heater switch from off to air or defrost, the temp drops imeadatly, i can understand that the heater core will take out some heat, but the fan is off, so some how the heater switch is affecting the flow of the water. any Ideas, over the weekend I think I am going to take out the thermostat and see if I still have flow issues.

Thanks,

Drew

sounds like you have air in your system..you need to get it out.

Sounds more like an electrical problem between the temp sender circuit and the heater switch circuit - the heater switch has nothing to do with the operation of the cooling system. You can verify by "shooting" the upper radiator hose just above the thermostat housing with an I.R. gun - that will show the true coolant temperature, and you can compare that with what the temp gauge is telling you.

My question with it being an electrical system problem is that the vent swich I don't belive is electrical. but I will check it out, is there any other way to test the electrical problem? and what is the best way to get the air out?

Thanks,

Drew
