Saw yesterday that it hit 109 f. in Dallas. Today will be a balmy 107 ; how does your C3 hold up in these temps ?

Dave (from Northern Illinois)

Mine is running fine. I put a new water pump on it when I rebuilt the motor a couple of years ago. I keep the cooling system flushed and put new anti freeze in it about every 18 to 24 months. My A/C even works good, but that does puch the temp up a bit. Mind you I do not make a habit of driving it in that kind of heat very often.

Actually it's doing great. I've spent some time on the cooling system with becool rad, aluminum W-pump, spal fans, 78 overflow tank and 50/50 dex-cool. I drive it daily and yesterday the temp slowly went to 200F where I have the fans switch to full speed and about 5 minutes later they brought the temp back to 180F and turned off. The AC blow 40 degree air the whole time and I didn't even break a sweat. My previous car, a black 96 Z28, would almost kill me a day like that. The huge greenhouse + black paint was real bad. I measured 145F inside on a 90F day after sitting in the shade with windows cracked and sunshade. Vette in the same conditions was only 2-3F hotter than outside.

Well, Dave the only way mine stayed cool was to leave it parked in the garage. I didnt want the fiberglass to melt on me while driving it in this HEAT. Its not going to be any better the rest of this week.

After living in Dallas for the past 23 years, I've gotten used to the heat. Since my Vette is in the garage getting a drivetrain transplant, it handled the heat just fine. :Silly They all run a bit warm in these temps, but I've never had any trouble in previous years when it gets this hot.

My wife is from Illinois, and on a trip to visit her family over Xmas holidays, I got to experience Illinois winter temps.:eek Never again. I'd rather put up with this heat than have to put up with snow drifts and below freezing temps in the winter. Our winters down here are nothing more than a mild inconvenience.

Zwede,
Id say your cooling system is remarkable shape to bring the water temp down that much on a 109 F. day.

Thumper,
I hear what youre saying on the snow drifts, ice, etc...in Illinois, BUT, i think id rather have the Vette in storage during those months than deal with paint blistering / fading / and overheating (both car and driver) :) . Besides, going Tobogganing and making a SnowMan brings out the kid in me .

Dave

That's why we have garages down here. To avoid the fading, blistering, etc. We like to do snow related things here as well. We just go to Colorado to do them. :D

That is why I have always said that snow is fun to visit :) but I never want to live with it :(

The last time I drove my Vette in heat like this, I had to really monitor the temp guage. Driving home from work onetime, the temp was creaping up to the red line, I was in stop & go traffic with about 30 miles to go before I got home, so I shut off the A/C and popped off the t-tops. We were only going maybe 3 MPH as I took them off. The temp dropped maybe 10 degrees. But it was good enough to keep going.

I just arrived home from downtown a few minutes ago, and noticed the outside temp was 105 degrees. I heard on the radio that we were also at 93 percent humidity. That makes the heat index at 119 degrees. Heat index is what it feels like outside. Think I will stay in awhile before going out to the garage.

Gotta go to Heaven 'cause we are living in hell!

Ive heard it said that when youre car is overheating in real hot weather...you should open all your windowns and put the heater on to help cool down the engine ; which one of your Texans would like to give it a try before this hot spell is over ?! :)

I used to have an '89 Jeep Cherokee Limited, and that dang car would run soooooo hot in the summertime. I replaced every item in the entire cooling system and it still ran hot in the summer. It got so hot one day, that I rolled all of the windows down, opened the sun roof, and turned the heater on, hoping I could make it home before the engine gave out. I made it home just fine, but nearly had a heat stroke in doing so. I traded it in the very next day for a new Z71 GMC extended cab pickup. That truck has never seen 200 degrees, even when it's 109 outside.

I took a little trip over to Ken's House ( Ken73 ) the other day.....Drove from aout 25 miles east of Houston to the West Side ( Didnt run into too much traffic on 610 or I10 ) and it stayed right around 200.....No A/c though and I have a small 3 core radiator....

PS ~~~ After I got back , I took off on a couple day trip down the Guadalupe River......Nice and Ice cold...:beer ....gotta Luv it

Guadalupe!

The Guadalupe is a great way to cool off!

Did you tube, canoe, or kayak it?

The best way to cool off and relax is to tube it with a cooler full of your favorite drinks tied to another tube. Now I gotta go! Haven't been this year.

Was it crowded?

My Dad and I used to Kayak from Canyon Lake Dam to the coast every summer. Took about three days. We would camp along the way. The white water rapids and water falls were better than any ride at Disney! What a blast!

Man, is it Hot here!

Bill

Mine does just fine. It runs hotter now than in the cooler times of the year but has not over heated. I'd rather go through a short heat wave down here in the South than have to live in the North and have to deal with those Winters. Yes Colorado makes a great Winter get-away but then we come back to 60 degree days that makes for great cruising :cool :cool :cool

Save the Wave :w

Hey Bill....

Yeah it was nice down on the River :_rock

We did all Three....I rode in a tube with another one connected to me :bar

There was also a raft and a kayak in our group......I try to make it @ least once a year.....The water was nice , cold as always , wasnt running as fast as I would have liked it.....only about 200-250.....Like it to be more around 400

If ya plan on going...give me a ring...I'm always up for another trip...... I'll get my pictures back Sunday
