Air Base in Texas!
ATTENTION Racers and Performance Enthusiast!!

We (NASA Texas) have been conducting road race events in Texas for
the last three years. An operator of a retired air base has agreed
to rent us their facility for hosting a one-mile high-speed shoot
out. We are all interested in finding a place to “run” legally.
Here is the chance to prove what you got and run wide open.

Also, we are seeking businesses that want to support the event
through being a tech shop, contingency provider and/or awards
supporter (through gift certificates, product and cash).

Here are some of the basics: THE INAUGURAL TEXAS ONE-MILE HIGH
SPEED SHOOT OUT

WHEN: Oct. 25-26, 2003

WHERE: Goliad, Texas (abandoned NAVY airfield)

STRUCTURE: 120 foot roll-out, 1 mile run with radar speeds being
primary determination of victors backed by timing lights for tie
breakers, ½ mile for shut-down

WELCOMING: Motorcycles, Performance Street Cars, Race Cars and
Vintage Cars

DRIVERS and RIDERS: Get the Chance to Join the 200+ mph Club of
Texas; Win Trophies and Certificates. Working on providing
contingencies and cash prizes.

A MOTORSPORTS FESTIVAL: Fun, Safe, well organized and legal. A Full
Weekend of High Speeds, Other Festivities and Entertainment. Car

I know of a few Texas Callaways that would be competitive in this - Looks like a LOT of safety mods needed for unlimited though...

Now that is awesome. We have an old air base up here that I was always hoping an event like that would take place at some day.

Any car or bike that could hit 200mph+ in a mile or less would be one badazz ride...

The 120 foot "roll-out" will make this interesting. Other top speed events that I've read that go from a dead stop will rarely yield a modified street car over 175mph. With a good 60 mph head start? 200 mph could be do-able!! The guy with the turbo busa better get his helmet ready!

Also, it's interesting to see various results from "tests" like this because sometimes the underdog can win... by that I mean someone has a great chance of gaining a good top-end mph if they have a very very aerodynamic car that is geared properly. Of course, you have to have some serious hp too.. but at those speeds aerodynamics is a limiting factor.

We have to determine which Callaway we're going to enter for the "Team"! :L

Funny thing is I was talking to another friend just the other day about the need for a track longer than the usual 1/8 or 1/4 mile. I think that there's enough enthusiast out there, that prefer top end type races. Texas traffic laws just got much stricter this Sept. and the penalties as a result are extremely tuff.

Frisco Tx. has an almost brand new (concrete) runway for an airport project that was abandon, may just be the right time to look into this further. If so a few investors may be needed.

I'm definetely excited !I just don't know which car would be best at this time and at the same time I need to find out what type safety equipment is required. A cage is out of the question for any of my cars.

With a roll, I think your ZR1 would be awesome in this event. Unless you get the 88 35th running, it has a blown head gasket right?

I've added some stop leak to the cooling system on the 35th against my better judgement, and so far it leaks a bit under severe driving, luckily the leaks are outside rather than into the combustion. This would be my prefered car, since it is much stronger than the Z. The Callaways are both verts which is why my next Callaway has to be a coupe.

Damn I wish I was home in Texas!!! Not that my car would hit 200 being an auto with 3.73 gears, but I would still like to see what the top speed is! Ya have to keep us posted on this!!!!
