I just wanted to thank everyone who responded, especially Cntrhub, who hit the nail on the head with his bad spark plug diagnosis. It sounded like a simple solution to an irritating problem-trouble was, it took of all places (after 3 shops), The Car Care Clinic to figure this out.
Thing is, the plug was sparking enough that the scope didn't detect it. The bad plug fried the coil in the distributor after a while, hence when the car was good and warmed up, the hesitation on acceleration started.
A $1400+ tune up took care of this.
Put the car on the interstate and ran it-but good! I'm back in the mix!!
Thanks again to everyone.
