Got the motor up and running, she is doing pretty well, the valves are adjusted, but unfortunately, she is still overheating, took the thermostat out, it was slightly better, but hit 220 degrees within ten minutes, I still have a ways to go it seems, I want a new motor!

Thats because you took the stat out, the water circulates too fast for the radiator to cool it! BIG MISTAKE!:nono

What type of manifold do you have ? Did you take the time to match the intake gasket to the heads and do the same to the intake to assure they are a match?I have heard before mis match parts or improper intake gasket could cause blockage and not allow the water to circulate proper,

As for a new motor YOU MUST first figure out why its running hot,Or you could end up with a new motor and have the same running hot problem,

Useally one of the first questions is are you getting flow thru your radiator? Then some one would pull the cap and look in and say YEP I see the water flowing thru,Guess what that doens tell us much except the thermostat is open and the water pump is pumping,You need to aquire a digital lazer thermometer (Around 100.00)If you cant borrow one then just put that 100.00 toward a new radiator and dont purchase the lazer thermometer. Any ways once you get the lazer measure the temps across the rad What I normally find on old rads is yes your getting flow but only thru a couple of rows and the rad is blocked so its actually not taking the heat away from the motor .

Good luck I am not saying not to replace the motor I am just saying replace it for the right reason
